About

What StudySort is, and how it is made.

StudySort is a free revision site for GCSE and A-Level students. It has 210 topic guides, a few planning tools, and an organiser that turns your own notes into flashcards and practice questions.

Why every guide ends with questions

Most students revise by re-reading notes and highlighting. It feels like work, but it is one of the least effective ways to prepare for an exam. Testing yourself, and spreading that testing out over days and weeks, does much more.

This is one of the most consistent findings in learning research. In a 2013 review of ten common study techniques, Dunlosky and colleagues rated practice testing and spacing out study as the most useful, and re-reading and highlighting as among the least. Roediger and Karpicke (2006) found that students who tested themselves on a passage remembered more of it a week later than students who spent the same time re-reading it.

So every guide follows the same order: the key definitions, a diagram you can change, flashcards, and exam-style questions with the marking points listed, so you can mark what you actually wrote.

How the guides are made

The guides were drafted with the help of AI models and structured around the topics most UK exam boards share. Each one follows a fixed template: a short introduction, key concepts, a diagram or simulator, flashcards, practice questions with marking points, and common questions.

AI makes mistakes, including confident ones. Not every guide has been checked line by line by a subject teacher, and you should treat them as a revision aid, not a replacement for your textbook, your teacher or your exam board's specification.

If you find an error, please report it so it can be corrected.

What happens to your notes

When you use the note organiser, your text or photo is sent to our server and on to an AI model, which writes the summary, flashcards and questions. Your notes are not stored on our server. The organised result is saved in your own browser, so it stays on that device and is deleted if you clear your browser data.

The organiser is free for 3 runs a day per browser because each run costs money. The guides and tools have no limit. The privacy policy has the full details.

What StudySort is not

  • It is not affiliated with AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC or any exam board. Your board's specification and past papers are the final word.
  • It does not schedule flashcard reviews for you. The free planner helps you plan them.
  • It does not sync between devices, because there are no accounts.
